Family Soccer Fun

Last soccer post! This year we were able to turn soccer into more of a family event. Brandon was staying up after work for several hours so the kids could get to soccer. The weather was beautiful all season long and we ended up bringing the family to several games and practices. Here are just a few pictures of the fun that happen during soccer.

Annie Goes to Soccer

Annie started her first year of soccer and in a huge surprise to us all, she dominated! She did so great! She was not afraid to run after that ball and get it and best of all, she had SO much fun doing it! Her gymnastics friend was on her team and Annie looked forward to every Monday and Saturday when she got to go play! 

The first couple practices were great, Annie listened well and was having a ton of fun. I was a little worried about the game since she can get a bit pouty if things don't go her way so I was nervous she would shut down if she couldn't keep up. About 5 minuets into the first game, my fears were squashed when Annie scored a goal...then another....then another....then another...basically she got the ball and put it in the net, every.single.time. I called Brandon and said you have to bring the kids over here, you have to watch your daughter, she is amazing! He rushed over and got to see her score a couple more goals!

As the season went on, not all games were like that, different teams had different ability levels and they got crushed a couple of times but Annie did her best and never got frustrated which made me VERY happy. I think we will be seeing alot more of miss Annie on the soccer field!

I forgot to mention, Annie is aggressive and goal driven  but she isn't afraid to show her big kind heart. She accidentally leveled a much smaller boy on another team, stopped mid field and tended to him and helped him up. She also did a great job cheering on her teammates and encouraging them! Its a good thing she didn't let being the female Pele go to her head, I would have pulled her butt right out in a heartbeat :)

This Fall, Elias completed his 5th season of Sunflake soccer! Elias' season got off to a wonderful start when he realized he was on the same team as a few of his friends from Century, he was so excited to go to the first practice that for the 1st time in a LONG time, I didn't have to tell him 100 times to get his shoes, get his water get his ball etc, he was ready to go! Elias did a great job of listening to his coaches all season and never complained, which is really all we expect out of him. The first several games he made no contact with the ball but kept up with the group as best he could, he had fun and he kept trying! By mid season, he made his first contact with the ball in a game! We were so excited for him and he was pretty pumped as well. By the end of season he was making contact with the ball several times a game and even had an assist! He almost scored a goal himself but it missed by about a foot, not bad for my little man! 

Saturday was Elias' last soccer game and I am not going to lied I cried. When we moved into this house I stood on the front lawn 3 month old Elias in hand and pointed to the field and said "Look honey, one day you will be walking Elias to soccer over there." 6 years later, we are moving and it was out last time walking from our house to soccer, it made me sad. Elias didn't care and ran out the door but dang it I was sad! With the move, I'm not sure if we will put Elias in soccer again, running is hard on him as he has an abnormal gait and the parking situation here is terrible, but if he wants to, we will do it again, I would imagine though, that this was his last season...cue tears. Ok, I am getting way too nostalgic so here are some pictures.

Last Wednesday marked the end of another successful soccer season for Mr. Elias! By successful, I mean he listened well, followed directions, mostly went in the direction of the ball and he even managed to kick it a time or two in a game! I would say that is a pretty fabulous success! He isn't going to be the next Pele, but he is having fun at that is all that matters. Elias was on a team with a couple of kids from his school as well as a couple of friends of mom and dad! # proudmommamoment Elias is smart, funny and sweet as can be...athletic...not so much at this point so we really celebrate the little things!
