Happy Happy Birthday Samuel James!!!! Samuel made his arrival just two short years ago, yet it feels like he has been here forever! Samuel affectionately earned the nick name "crabby Sammy" for most of his short childhood. I am pleased to say for the last 5-6 months, he has grown out of that, really began talking and developing the cutest personality. Out of all of our kids, he is the most like Elias. He is already copying Elias' independent superhero play moves, he loves "Hulkie" aka the hulk and of course his beloved Mickey Mouse too. He loves going to parks, playing playdoh and doing things all by himself, no matter how messy it gets! He has recently refused to sit in his booster chair and most meals can be found climbing all over the table while we take on the long task of teaching table manners to a toddler. He is a jokster and loves to giggle and make people laugh. He still has his crabby moments and is definitely showing some sensory issue similarities to Elias but overall he is a great kid and my sweet sweet Sammy boy! PS he loves talking to the baby in my belly but it is a general consensus that he is going to flip out when baby comes. He loves his mom and his snuggles and isn't too keen on sharing! We shall see! For now, onto the festivities!
Samuel started out his birthday with some good quality playtime with mom and his siblings! We spent the morning destroying one room of the house while I frantically cleaned another room. By the time daddy woke up, we were all ready for a nap! I took a short( almost 3 hour) nap and when I got up, everyone was up and the house was decorated for the big party! We took Samuel outside just as Grandma Mim was showing up and he got to play and run off energy before dinner.
Samuel is a pretty smart kid and was doing his darndest to try to convince someone, anyone, to give him a cupcake. He had a full on meltdown and we let him be. Then we heard the oh so familair sound of a chair being pushed into the kitchen and uncontrolled giggling. I sprang up and ran into the kitchen to see Samuel proudly holding a cupcake. With a big ole grin he presented it to me and said" I DID IT!" "Cupcake!" We decided to let him have it, it was his birthday after all! After he finished his cupcake, the pizza arrived with my parents, nephew, sister and Kellie( Uncle Jordan was there of course too). We did pizza, cleaned up , then got to gift opening.

The last few birthdays we have had around here have been a meltdown fest for Samuel. He would walk up to the gifts and collapse in a fit of disappointment when he realized they were not for him. We expected him to really go to town and be thrilled to be the one to get to open gifts this time. He was happy but overwhelmed, in a good way, with all the things he was allowed to open. Samuel had a great birthday and got new playdoh, new stuffies, new sandbox, candy, bubbles, a new bike, helmet and so much more! After gifts we did ice cream and cake. Here is where things got really classy! I was sure we had candles, nope couldn't find a single one! Brandon stuck two matches in a cupcake and tried to light them so Samuel had something to blow out. The process of lighting the cupcakes, and singing happy birthday was enough to send him into a major meltdown! After the song was done Grandma got him calmed down while we dished up cupcake and ice cream. he ate in peace and all was right with the world.

The kids headed out back to play and Samuel found more ice cream, thanks to auntie melissa! He spent his time between the back yard and the play doh. He patiently waited while the adults cleaned up and assembled his new bike!
The party guests started to leave so we headed outside to have some play time and test out some of those outdoor toys! Everyone had a great time and was sad to see it end and have to take a bath. While we gave Samuel a bath, I realized we didn't even get a picture of the parents with the birthday boy! Nothing like a bathroom selfie to cap off a birthday party!
We love you crabby sammy!!! Thanks for not being crabby anymore!
