All Saints Day

Surprised I am still keeping up with the daily blog posts? Here is a little secret, I sit here at my computer frantically typing out 5 or 6 at a time. That is why they are lacking even the most basic grammar and filled with spelling and word mistakes. It gives the ole blog some character though, no?
Any ways, onto November!

Every year for All Saints Day, we play hookey from school and throw a big party with our fellow Catholic friends. We used to do dress up but the kids have started to outgrow their Saint stash and I wasn't in the mood to remake 6 sets of Saint costumes. You know what I was in the mood for? VINYL! Who needs a Saint shirt? I have very few pictures of the actual party, but I have a lot of the kids in their sweet shirts.

Happy All Saints Day

Last Saturday we had a little party with some of our catholic friends to celebrate All Saints Day! The kids had gotten some glitter paint from Aunt Melissa and wanted to use it, so, earlier in the week we made a sign to use in our "photo booth"
We did some minor decorations, hung up some of the Saint pictures and biography's we had been working on all week in school and called it good to go!
I tested out the photo booth first, with a glamorous shot of me and my sweat shop work. Look at all those well made saint costumes:)
As soon as everyone got there, we played dress up, took some pictures, heard some stories about saints, played a lot  and just had a jolly ole time.

We had a make your own sandwich lunch and the Grafs brought a pinata, which was the hit of the party! The kids hung out and played some more but alas it was time. The Senti's had to get back to Bismarck(boo) and all the kids needed a nap to recover from daylight savings. Brandon still hadn't been to bed and he needed to catch a few z's as well. It was a fun day with friends and I hope to make this a yearly tradition!

My very own sweat shop

I have said for the several years that I would like to make the kids some simple saint costumes to play dress up on all saints day. This year, as a part of homeschool, we did a lot of saint biography's and did a whole unit study on some of our favorite saints. At the same time our unit study began, I found out that some good friends of ours were going to be in town over the weekend so I decided to throw an all saints day party! After these two decisions were made, Brandon demanded suggested I make a million a couple saint costumes for the kids to dress up in.
I went to JoAnns, bought a ton of cheap fabric and got to work. My goal was quantity not quality! There was going to be 9 kids at the party and I wanted everyone who wanted to, to be able to dress up. I worked in my sewing room night and day for about 4 days and cranked out several, not perfect but perfect for dress up, saint costumes!
A couple days before the party we had a little fashion show, mainly so I could make adjustments if needed and here are my tragic looking but oh so beautiful saints:)

St. Joseph( also could be obi wan!) and St. Theresa
Mary, cause who doesn't need a Mary costume! Any one see a christmas skit in our future...I do!
 Saint patrick
 St. Nicholas
 Mini saint Patrick
 The 2 Saint nicholas'
St. Francsis and St. Anthony

There were several others that didn't make it on the official camera.

I am glad I bit the bullet and made all of these even if it was rushed. You can never have too many dress up clothes!
